Despite the growing demand for the movement of domestic modules and oversized cargo for windmill, refinery and tar sands projects there have been no domestic vessels truly designed to adequately provide this type of service.

With the recent acquisition of the MarineLink Explorer, MarineLink has positioned itself to be the first Canadian company to offer a purpose built Ro-Ro, heavy lift vessel on the Great Lakes.

The MarineLink Explorer is an extremely flexible vessel that can operate in both Ro-Ro and Lo-Lo configurations. She has fore and aft loading ramps. The forward ramp has a 1,000 MT capacity and in the right shore conditions can be deployed in a landing craft mode. For heavy lift cargoes, she has two onboard Stuelken booms rated at 212 Metric Tons each. Her configuration and ice class capability allows her to operate effectively with little or no shore infrastructure, ideal for remote and even Arctic destinations.
