At MarineLink we are a solutions company. Our services are as varied as your transportation needs. We have the knowledge, resources and partners to get your product where it needs to be when it needs to be there.
MarineLink provides or is investigating solutions for: Complex Marine Towing, Grain Movement, Lightering, Neo-Bulk Cargo, Project Cargo, Container movements and handling and cross lake Ferry services. Although MarineLink's core services are marine based transportation, we are more than that. MarineLink also offers or will develop custom shore facilities, intermodal facilities and specialized Logistics services.
MarineLink is defined as an exploration into "New Generation Shipping", providing innovative solutions to marine based transportation markets that are not adequately being serviced by the traditional Great Lakes shipping industry. As such, the mandate for MarineLink's scope of service is constantly evolving. As new markets are uncovered MarineLink will use its expertise and influence to explore those markets, remove impediments and expand its service offerings.
Our foundation may be on the water, but with MarineLink, the sky is the limit.
Project Cargo
The project cargo business is concerned with the logistics, handling and transporting of oversize or overweight cargo, such as industrial and marine modules, equipment or machinery.
Project cargoes are actually one of the fastest growing freight sectors in the Great Lakes/ St. Lawrence Seaway corridor. The booming business in wind turbines, along with the growth in module movements for large industrial projects has created a growing demand for this specialized service. Read More.

Hopper Barges
MarineLink currently operates a fleet of 8 Mississippi style hopper barges, for cargo movements within the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway. These vessels are standard Mississippi style hopper barges with double skin design, single box shaped hold and removable fiberglass hatch covers. However, these are the newest and most robust design of Mississippi barge with a 14’ (4.27M) moulded depth and a 5’ (1.5m) coaming height. Read More.
Shore Facilities
Short-Sea-Shipping isn't new to the Great Lakes. It flourished for decades in the multitude of small ports dotting the Great Lakes and the St Lawrence. The domination of marine transportation by large bulk freighters slowly saw these facilities close up, to the point where now, there are few viable small port facilities. This is recognized as one of the impediments to the resurrection of Short-Sea-Shipping in the Great Lakes. Read More.
Container Feeder
Of all the Short-Sea-Shipping opportunities, a container feeder service from the Atlantic coast is one of the most highly anticipated. The Great Lakes remain one of the few areas in the world without regular container feeder services. With the anticipated growth of container movements through the East Coast and the existing limitations on port infrastructure and rail/truck capacity, combined with the need to find more environmentally sustainable transportation systems, there is a clear need for a marine feeder alternative.
